ADSL Installation Trying to install TSTT's software?

Just a few hints regarding the ADSL installation:
Residential:
-------------
TSTT's software for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB does not work in T&T !!
You can use the latest software (2.01) for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem from:
http://www.speedtouch.com/support.htm.
All modem settings are in the phonebook.ini file. You cannot change the content of the file as it will result in a checksum error. You need the correct phonebook.ini file (I can provide the file). Important parameters for TSTT: VPI/VCI 0/35, PPPoA
Using the correct phonebook.ini file during the installation will install the necessary drivers, dialin utility etc. Do not try to use anything else the PPPoA
This is part of a working phonebook.ini file:
[Version]
FileVersion=1.4
[Driver]
DriverType=0 (this will install software as PPPoA and not PPPoE)
[Maximum simultaneous connections]
MaxSimConnections=1
[0001]
Name=PPPoA_0/35
VpiVci_VPI=0
VpiVci_VCI=35
...
Business 1 & 2:
-------------------
TSTT supplies a variety of routers (3COM, USR SureConnect 9003, Efficient Networks SPEEDSTREAM 5200 ...). If you go at least with a one year contract, you get the router for free (depending upon availability). I wouln't pay $2,400 since they are on the net for US$110. All or most of the routers provide USB and Ethernet ports to connect to your LAN. They have inbuild firewalls which can be managed via a web interface.
Make sure that you change the router password otherwise people might be able to log into the router from the net. If you do not enable remote support, disable ftp, telnet and http access from the net.
Setup:
PPPoA, VPI:0, VCI:35, LLC/SNAP, Authentication Protocol: PAP + your username/password
Note: Setup for Windows, Linux, Mac for the business package is the same as all settings can be done via a web browser.
Once you know the above ... there shouldn't be a need to pay the $552.00/$874.00 install fees. I guess the fees are for getting the correct software
Hope this helps!

Oops ... it seems the $552 always apply for ??? "Service Install Charge (One-Time)". Probably for the installation/configuration of the TSTT equipment at TSTT.
In addition to that, there is a installation fee when they come to your home:
"A $402.50 modem installation charge will apply if a technician's visit is required to install the ADSL modem / router at the customer's premises."

The file phonebook.ini is here: http://www.tsttprobl...l/phonebook.zip It is for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB (the green manta ray type). I do not know if it also works for the new redish one.

When you install the Alcatel software and there is no phonebook.ini file in the installation path, you get promted for the location of the file.
Anyhow ... on Windows .ini files are not visible by default. You have to set the Folder Options/View to allow these files to be visible.

Is anyone currently using the Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5200
configured with PPPoA, VPI:0, VCI:35, LLC/SNAP, Authentication Protocol:
PAP + username/password like Admin posted.
I'm looking to do the installation myself and would like to comfirm that these
settings are working.
Admin, how long have you had your DSL service now?

Yes, I have a few clients with the SpeedStream 5200 (USB+Eth). These parameters are looking fine. With the ethernet port you might also have to assign the correct IP address of your LAN, once you like to connect it to your existing LAN.
I have ADSL since June 2003.

Can you tell me if TSTT supplies the 5200 with the default IP 192.168.254.254?
Yes, it seems so ... at least that is what the 5200 manual says.
Download the manual from Efficient Knowledgebase
Just type in 5200 and you will get a few links to pdf manuals.
Just remember ... TSTT is using PPPoA, forget about PPPoE.
