This goes out to all of you who think that the service currently being branded as "broadband" ADSL is really broadband......this service is just 128k....same as isdn that was available donkey years ago all over the world. I had the privilage of having real broadband and trust me TSTT does not even come close to it.....broadband adsl connections all over the world are between 300k to 1.5m but yet in trinidad we are being offered a sub standard data rate of 128k or 256k at outrageous prices when will we wake up and demand proper service in this country??? prob never cause every one seems to be taking the scraps that tstt throws to us and being quite happy with it. My suggestion to all in this community is demand more and boycott the substandard adsl untill tstt can provide a proper broadband service that is comparable to the rest of the world at a reasonable price or are we going to encouage them by taking adsl and making them feel we are happy? are we all going to be suckered into this 2020 vision thing with substandard voice and data communications after all they make a huge profit but customers come last.

some info on real dsl service and what it means to have dsl...notice this technology has been around for about 5 years.....maybe time to get the old heads out of tstt and bring in some new blood who understand the kinda of technology available.

Well, even though it is a 128/64Kbps ADSL contract with TSTT, the reality looks quite different. Depending on the distance to your exchange, my experience shows that you get rates between 6,144/1,024 Kbps and 1,024/256 Kbps.
Having the 'lower' speed, I still can do downloads with close to 100 KBytes/second. About 25-30 times faster than with my modem. This might be temporary to 'lure' people into ADSl, but it could also be permanent. We will see and hopefully we will be able to chose from a variety of ISP's with competitive prices.

Actually the cost for bandwidth is quite high for any ISP , not only TSTT, purchasing it especially so far from the US, so if they pay HIGH cost, the COnsumer in effect has to pay the high cost. Thats why they start at 128K to give a better affordable range. If they sold it at a lower cost, then they Would not make any money. You would not sell something in your business for less than what you aid for it now would you?

I am now convinced that you Trinis are a bunch of fools!!
To start with ..this website is a wast of time since its usually useless banter - especially where Internet access is concerned. I here talk about TSTT bieng a monopoly. How on earth can it be a monoply when I can choose who I want as an ISP. Before I make this choice I have atleast 5 Options. Of these 5 options 3 of them have the same owner. So inreality I have 3 choices.

No one complains about how one owner has 3 ISP's each appearing to be seperate entities. No one complains about the Cable TV monopoly. A load of HOGWASH!!

Don't get me started with broadband!
The same substandard service you claim TSTT gives is much better than the other psuedo broadband services available.
What about Fiberline, Proximity, Wintel for fast Internet access?

so you folks better start saying stuff that makes sense or wipe your mouth with toiletpaper cause its comming out the wrong end.
Maybe if sensible stuff comes out the service providers will listen!! <_<

I always worry when someone tells me how great they had something somewhere else and little it it cost them..............maybe they have not yet noticed that when you import something from abroad it costs a lot more not just technology but even run of the mill items such as clothing and shoes etc. CD's that cost 9.99 usd are routinely sold for at least 100 ttd so my friend if you really thinhk that tstt's prices are too high don't use it and solve your problem before it starts...........

also the speed at which you download a file is dependant an lots more than available bandwidth or how far away from the exchange you reside remember that speed is just a maximum value for the available bandwidth

so if u can get it take the adsl cause those of us who cyar get it blasted vex to be using only dialup

TSTT can! ... but I can tell you too, that ADSL is available in St. James! Once your phoneline is using normal copper wire ... it shouldn't be a problem. TSTT has first to check the line (from the exchange)

Admin, it would appear that you are one of the fortunates who got on the ADSL wagon early and have an uncapped DSLAM ;)

I subscribed about three months ago (as soon as the service became available in my area), and can assure you that my download bandwidth is strictly capped within a percentage point or two of 128kbps

Upload bandwidth is actually much higher for me - somewhere around 512k !
