Trying to file a consumer complaint at the Minstry of Legal Affairs:
http://www.consumer....necomplaint.htm resulted in one of the standard errors when using a goverment site:
"The script this form is using has been upgraded due to security issues and needs to be reconfigured. Specifically, the site owner should specify a list of valid recipients (@recipients array). Also please make sure you have filled in the recipient form field with an e-mail address that has been configured in @recipients. More information on filling in recipient form fields and variables can be found in the Formmail README file." ... I guess they are out of date ...

Haha, it would not have been the Trinidad Government if you didn't get that error :)

I'm not interested in entering anymore yearly contracts with TSTT. Even if TSTT ends up being cheaper, I'm switching to the competition based on principles.

Haven't seen anywhere that one has to sign a contract for a minimum time ...
I actually would like to get the SmartChoice terms & conditions!

Don't think there is a mimimum time limt, but to go back to regular billing, there is a termination fee of $25.00

It looks like Smart Choice might be the end of Dialup ISPs in Trinidad.

The following is the text of a letter that TSTT has sent to
independent ISPs concerning the effect 'SmartChoice' will have on their
future operations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

On March 31, 2005 TSTT will be launching packages called TSTT Smart
Choice to its Residential and Business customers. These packages will
include bundled local call minutes with free calling features for one
monthly rate. The plans also offer attractive discounts on other TSTT
services.

The bundled local call minutes referred to above apply only to minutes
generated from calls made from a TSTT fixed line to a TSTT fixed line.
Residential customers will be able to choose packages ranging from
unlimited minutes to specific bundled minutes and pay a fixed monthly
rate. Apart from the unlimited Residential plan, customers will be
charged a rate of $25 cents per minute for calls in excess of the
bundled plan minutes.

This tiered rating structure also applies to the following types of
calls viz.;

* calls to other operators
* calls to special numbers
* calls to Independent Internet Service provider Internet access lines.

The approach to charging different rates for different types of calls is
being guided by the expected changes in the new Regulatory environment,
which will be in full effect in the next few months. It was therefore
necessary for TSTT to build this into its rating structure at this time.
These requirements will not only impact on your customers but on
customers of all operators, including TSTT, in the very near future.

Therefore, with the introduction of these new plans, customers who
choose to be on a Smart Choice plan will now be required to pay $0.20
per minute for calling Internet access numbers operated by Independent
ISP’s. It must be noted that this rate is cheaper than the per minute
rate for calls made in excess of the bundled minutes.

This does not apply, at this time to persons calling your service and
are not on a Smart Choice plan.

TSTT recognizes that this may increase the cost that some of your
customers pay for accessing your service, and we are pleased to provide
you with an alternative solution for your customers viz.; TSTT Local
Toll free 800 service.

The current charges which apply to this service are as follows:

* 1-100 hours $0.29c per minute
* 101 and above $O.25c per minute

As a special consideration, TSTT will offer this service at a
preferential rate of $0.14c per minute, regardless of the number of
hours generated.

This service will allow your customers to call you toll free while you
absorb the cost of the call, and will no doubt improve your customer
satisfaction.

If you are interested in this option please do not hesitate call us at
824-TSTT.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

They must have a Microsoft consultant making these decisions.

Still trying to get the Terms & Conditions for the SmartChoice package. Newspaper ads are now revealing more secrets (like the ISP charge etc). It seems that Consumer Affairs was already knocking on their doors.
