bout 2 weeks ago i got the linksys wireless router with speedbooster and turned my dsl into a wireless ..still gives the same result in speed (33KB/S) but this way i can share connection

what about a hub or switch.... how are you sharing the DSL... u didn't mention that.

hexx once u make a dsl into wireless .alll u have to do is go on the admin page of the wireless ..and make a network by enter a name for it and also put a network key (very important)

once a network is made in the admin page , your network card and any other pc/laptop with a network card (that is enable) will pick up the network which was create in the admin page of the wireless router.

speed for both on the network isnt lost unless both are downloading excessively with torrents lol. i only share with one person and they only come on to check mail so it doesnt affect me.

by the way, anyone knows where in trinidad sells dsl modems (besides radioshack) ..i wanted to check other places and see wat different type i can buy (linksys, netgear, speedstream etc)

hi, thanks.

I think that WAMS (wireless and mobility or something like that...) in WestMall, (downstairs, on the east side) or the other branch in Grand Bazzar (on the side with club tower, but on the opp end) might have dsl modems, I was looking for a wireless router there, but didn't pay attention to everything they had.

I am trying to setup the SMC7004VWBR wireless router with the Paradyne 6211 Modem and not getting anything I am trying wired before I try the wireless .

I changed the wireless router address to 192.168.1.2 (the modem is 192.168.1.1) the computer is set to DHCP I get into the wireless router fine it also seems to have gotten settings from the modem but I cant connect.

Any help here

lol  no dpds68 thats not the way to do it

u change the wireless router ip address FROM 192.168.1.1 TO 192.168.0.1

if u change the ip to 192.168.1.2 then ur jus giving it a ip that is assigned upder 192.168.1.1

so change the wireless router ip to 192.168.0.1
leave the paradyne modem/router to 192.168.1.1

and then u could continue putting in the settings into the wireless router admin page . i dont know how the SMC7004VWBR admin page looks like but most likely theres an option to automatic detect the dsl modem settings

good luck

I got the Nexxt wireless router, but didn't get any cable yet, so was just reading the manual. It's got a DHCP and NAT on it, do I enable them there on the nexxt? Because I am thinking having DHCP (& NAT?) enabled on both might cause something bad to happen.

well the dhcp may have to be enable for the router to work properly with ur dsl modem connected to it ..and as for the NAT i suggest u leave on , there may be a firewall on that wireless router u can configure , since i only know the linksys wireless router i cant really give u any configuration to put in but once u set up the wireless network and u have ur network card enable then ur good to go ..no need for cables or anything like that

by the way all, on the paradyne topic - my paradyne now is completely gone through cuz i get PPP down in the diagnostics test along with 2 other errors..someone else i cant remember who was having the same problem and i think they had to get thier modem changed ..so i may have to get a new paradyne from tstt

watever ;)

Ok, so leave DHCP on in both the paradyne and the wireless router then? I'm getting the cat5 tommrow evening, so hopefully I'll get to try it soon.

I had that problem when I signed up, they didn't change the modem, though I belive they did open it, (there are screws under the rubber stands). I still get PPP down every now and then for about 5-10mins, every couple days or so, but then it starts back working normal. Got no idea why it happened in the first place or why it happens, I know if I call TSTT and ask they won't know anyway...

Acutally it when down for 5min when I was posting this msg, but all the lower test failed. I don't think the diagnostic for the authenication and ping are accurate when any of the above fail. Because sometimes when I disconnect my paradyne the authenication and ping alone pass still ^_^

hmm thats why i stick to my first impression on the paradyne - that its ah pack of crap , jus a way for tstt to pay less on modems and charge the same high price to customers..dam scammers ..owell have no choice but to wait till a weekday since they dont work on weekends <_<

Senti_al with a Subnet of 255.255.255.0 will 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 be on diffrent networks ?

Hexxx Turn off DHCP on the wireless you dont want 2 devices giving out IP's

the dhcp could stay on ...becuz if the dsl modem/router is 192.168.1.1 and the wireless router is 192.168.0.1 as i said , then the dhcp will give out ip respectively

eg - the dsl modem will give a dhcp of 192.168.1.X

and the wireless router will give a dhcp of 192.168.0.X

where X = watever number is randomly give (2 to 255 or something)
but since u will be wireless u will only see the 192.168.0.X in the taskbar

the good thing bout this is that u can still access both admin pages since the lan ip for both of them is different

dpds68 - the subnet will be 255.255.255.0 for both type of lan ips (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1)
