Seagate Delivers Innovative Wireless Storage Solution For Symbian Smartphones
Seagate’s Digital Audio Video Experience (DAVE™) technology interoperates with Symbian OS™, providing high-capacity storage for consumer and business users

February 13, 2007-2007 3GSM SHOW, Barcelona, Spain - Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX) today announced it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program. As a Platinum Partner, Seagate will support the growing Symbian smartphone market with its new DAVE technology platform, ensuring seamless interoperability with devices running S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3 user interfaces. The DAVE platform delivers 10-20 GB of hard drive wireless storage in an accessory smaller than many slim-line mobile phones. Designed to deliver a great user experience for consumer and enterprise applications alike, DAVE technology enables digital content to be stored, moved and connected in ways never before possible.

“With the emergence of the new smartphone lifestyle, Seagate’s DAVE technology delivers a whole new level of integrated micro-hard disc storage capacity to Symbian smartphones and enables users to increase vastly their storage of digital photos, videos, music and personal data files,” said Jerry Panagrossi, vice president of US operations, Symbian. “This partnership between Symbian and Seagate demonstrates our joint commitment to deliver best-in-class storage solutions to the ever-growing Symbian OS ecosystem.”

Symbian, whose operating system is licensed by the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturers, enables a thriving ecosystem of partners, handset vendors, operators, developers and other key mobile players that create value for the smartphone market. According to analyst firm IDC, smartphones represent the fastest growing segment within mobile, growing at 46.6% compared to mobile at 21% year-on-year growth Q305 to Q306.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to developing and delivering mobile storage solutions that benefit the entire mobile chain, from the handset manufacturer all the way to the end user,”" said Patrick King, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate’s consumer electronics business unit. “By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, we can expand our DAVE technology platform and strengthen our relationships with Symbian smartphone manufacturers, network operators, and application developers.”
