I originally bought a data cable for a Nokia 7210 phone and TSTT told me that 'Yes, I can use it as a modem.' But somehow it was showing up as being connected to the PC but not showing up as a Modem in the List even after installing all the necessary drivers and software that was provided on a CD.

So I did some research on the net and this is what I found out. NOT ALL phones can be used as modems via data cables, Nokia and Sony Ericson included!

So that is why I switched to bluetooth and got a bluetooth phone and so far it works great. (Except for some annoying disconnects, no problems.)

If your phone has bluetooth on it, then you just need to buy a Bluetooth device to connect to your PC via USB. And in 5 minutes flat, you are connected and surfing!

Here is some information that I hope will be useful to anyone setting up GPRS:

Do you know if the GPRS is running behind a firewall because there are some sites that I normally get on to using my dial up account which I am not getting on when using GPRS?

And if yes, is there a way to work around this?

And does the signal strength of the GSM have anything to do with the connection speed? Because even if my signal is right up, I still get a sort of slow connection.

    Thank you.

It is becoming very annoying now since I am only staying connected for a max of 10 minutes before being disconnected. And then the phone remains connected so I have to switch off the phone and put it on again to break the connection... there it goes again ... disconnected!

Do you have any idea when this problem will be resolved? If this is the type of service then it may be better for me to stay with my dial up account and walk around with a phone line and hope to get a phone box somewhere.
