  1. Linksys Router Issues

    Posted 16 Nov 2009

I purchased a Linksys WRT54G2 router in September to use along with my blackberry to get internet over wifi.
It worked ok but the blackberry was always having problems connecting to the internet. Sometimes it connect..sometimes it won't.
I blamed it on the phone because my Zune was working ok and that was the only other wireless device I had. I tried WPA, WEP, WPA2, I even left it unsecured.

Recently though, I starting to suspect the router.
My computer connected via ethernet does drop the connection to the router. Like you'll leave something to download overnight through firefox
and in the morning when you expecting it to be finished..it saying finished but the sizes of the files don't mesh.
Surfing the net you'll see the network magic icon pop up and say this computer is not connected to the internet and then in a while it will jump back up.
I never experienced this before with my "network' which was just the TSTT modem connected to a cheap hub. That worked flawlessly.

So over the weekend just for kicks I come across a wireless network called dlink (wonder what brand router he using) with good signal strength and unsecured.
I tried connecting to that with the blackberry and surprise surprise...it works.
I say nah..I disconnect the wifi on the phone(something I couldn't take the chance to do before) and tried again. The thing connecting normal.

I looked for updated firmware for the 1.5 but there isn't any. I even looked at alternative firmware but DD-WRT says my model is not supported.

Anybody else have these kinda issues and resolve them? Or will I just have to keep on jumping on the neighbor wireless till he wise up?
  2. 2GB Cosrsair Dominator RAM for sale

    Posted 4 Oct 2008

Hey everyone. One of the components for my new build. Unfortunately I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment so I'm willing to push back the completion date and sell this part.
CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB ( 2 X 1GB ) PC2-8500 1066MHz 240-pin DDR2 CL5 Dual Channel Memory Kit. Asking price $1000 but I'm willing to negotiate. Make sure your motherboard will support it beforehand because unfortunately I can't do refunds. Any info needed feel free to ask.
  3. wow.net and greendot not playing nice together

    Posted 22 Sep 2008

Wow.net servers were down for a few days last week. When I check mails at the office today it downloading but not sending. Getting authentication errors. So I give their helpful tech support a call. The guy asks who is our ISP and I say Greendot. He says well you have to get the outgoing mail server from Greendot which didn't make a lot of sense but I assume this is a tech guy he know he stuff. He said this was a new thing and unfortunately he didn't know what that outgoing server address was so I have to give Greendot a call. Give greendot a call and was told a tech will call. One did call and give me the information I requested but this is where it gets interesting. Greendot have google as their mail server. So they just give me the smtp.gmail.com but no username or password since greendot connection doesn't use that.
To cut a long story short I had to set up a new gmail address and turn on the pop settings to send email from my wow.net account through greendot.
Even better is that since gmail is now the outgoing server, replies to emails we send out go to the gmail account not the wow.net account. WTH?
    This make sense to anybody?

  5. Using cell phone as modem

    Posted 23 Jul 2008

Hey everyone. Trying to figure out a workaround for internet access.
Phone line has been down for over 1 week with no quick fix in sight.
Was wondering if anyone ever setup their cellphone to act as a modem for their pc.
Via bluetooth or usb doesn't matter. I reached as far as the computer sending the signal to the phone which is a samsung sgh-600, the phone starts
dialing but then cuts after about two seconds every time. Also what are the costs associated with this, is it flat rate like fixed lines or will i have to pay on a per minute basis. Any light that could be shed on this would be most appreciated.
