In Topic: Flow Download Speeds Outside of Trinidad

Remember it never is the speed you have you will necessarily get, since you can be capped at the server you are connecting to.
I don't usually rely on these test, since I have never been able to achieve the speeds that I'm supposed to be paying for outside the speedtest results, since my download & upload speeds are about equal to what I'm supposed to get.
If I do notice the download or browsing is sluggish, I will do it though & then I will know if to reset the modem or call in, which has not happened from a week of the initial install.
I do believe this is quite right.
Remember also, that any provider, whether TSTT, FLOW, Caribel, AT&T, Verizon... whatever... they cannot guarantee that you will see the stated value all the time.
Once your traffic leaves the provider's network, it is now at the mercy of the internet and the routes that are taken which are not controlled by your ISP in any way.
So if you regularly visit one site and it is regularly slow, is it slow for all sites? Maybe it is just a problem with the routes taken to reach that site and the provider providing those routes.
What you can do is try to do some traceroutes to sites that move slowly and sites that move quickly and maybe you can notice commonalities. -

Just curious, but do you guys do real world testing in addition to these speed tests?
I would suggest downloading multiple files from multiple sites with a download manager like flashget.
That way, you can see the aggregated result as opposed to a one time test for a few seconds.
I have Flow internet at home, and it always flies... except when those stupid tall trucks keep bursting my lines... -

What brand of router is this?
What firmware did you originally have?
What is it now?
Try turning DHCP off on the router -

This was done on the Flow 2MB package at a friend's in Tunapuna and he's downloading torrents on his desktop.

Gregory
I see you got pretty good ping times there Gregory on your FLOW connection.
So I would say that normally imo, in this very non-scientific/non-statistical test, if you are in a FLOW connection, then ping times to the FLOW server would be good.
@bounty_killa, it says <50 miles because the FLOW server resides in Trinidad
