  1. In Topic: Blink Upgrade Question

    Posted 25 Nov 2007

Okay some information from reliable sources.

Ths following areas have to use the PPPoA config with VCMux for Blink.

    People off the :
    Diego Martin Exchange
    St Augustine Exchange
    San Juan Exchange
West Exchange, ie Maraval, St Clair, Woodbrook etc.

Those areas are actively being converrted right now.

Other areas which will use this same configuration are

    Chaguaramas
    Port of Spain
San Fernando, People off the Thompson exchange.

The conversion of those other areas is about to start.

In Parallel, there are some other areas which have started to be converted which use PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) instead of PPPoA. (over ATM)
All new customers in those areas will use a PPPoE configuration with SNAP encapsulation.
Customers off the Princes Town exchange have started to be converted, and TSTT has started to have installers visit these customers to ensure that they come up fine and any problematic modems are replaced.
The Belmont exchange which also feeds St. Anns and Cascade is going through this now as well, and Trincity is following in days.

The problem is that once you are cut to the new ADSL2+ equipment in these PPPoE areas, your PPPoA encapsulation will not work. It cannot be preset at PPPoE because it will not work before you are cut over.

TSTT I am told is working on a solution which will allow the PPPoA configurations to work when cut to the new ADSL2+ PPPoE areas. This will allow the cutover to be much easier on the customers, and allow TSTT to proceed much faster.

Eventually the whole network will move to PPPoE.

I have also been told that the physical cut to the new ADSL2+ hardware in the exchanges is the start, then the packages that you are on has to change in the administration system, which explains why you may be on the new hardware but the speeds are not up to mark yet. I understand that the backlog of these package changes is almost up to date, and people are working all weekend to catch up.

There are also a number of other areas which will start to be converted soon.

There have been some learning from these first cutovers, and things should move more smoothly going forward.

As I hear about areas being cut I will inform the board.
