Does anyone have any idea if bmobile has plans on switching their data network to 3/3.5G speeds (HSDPA)?

It's 2011 and EDGE speeds (you're barely even getting that-- speeds are closer to dial up bandwidth) are embarrassing to say the least. They're selling all these high end Android and new Symbian phones, but don't have the data plans to fully utilise the smart part of the smartphones (internet connectivity)

Come on!

PS. What's up with their handset prices? The post paid prices (read: 2 year contract) are above and beyond the SIM/ Contract free price you would pay anywhere, and there isn't that much of a difference between post paid and prepaid prices.

For example, their Nokia N8 is $4929 prepaid and $4699 (?!) post paid. To give you an idea of this robbery, this phone currently retails for USD$450, and can be bought unlocked locally for $3699- A full $1000 off the post paid 2 year contract price.

Are they out of their minds??

It's sad. and to think they charging so much for the service, it really makes you wonder...

It help subsidize the cost of providing voice and data services for people 'in the bush' like me...

I can't fathom the cost to upgrade a network so I'm not complaining re: AT&T buying T-Mobile...

Hear the complaints from some of those in the developed world about their telecom services...

bmobile has been selling 3G phones since 2006 when the N95 came out and have released many since then and no sign of them providing 3G service.

LTE is a 4G solution, meaning they would be bypassing 3G (HSPA/UMTS) alltogether, meaning all 3G phones they've sold until now would be useless on that network....

I'm obviously talking about voice/data here... to be able to use 3G/4G data speeds on my handset ;)

Can you give me any sources about the "rollout"?

Normally these things have Press Releases from the infrastructure side when the network is tendered, at least a year in advance, be it from Ericsson, Nortel or whoever..

If bmobile has started this process it would be documented somewhere...

As it is right now everything else is just old talk...

Dude, all that I can have you is to have some patience...

They do many things and don't advertise or test selectively first so just wait...

I just saw on page 22 of today's Express, that there is a full page teaser ad, with the words "My" and a red circle. I'm guessing this is a stylised version of "My Hotspot"

The footer reads "4G. Wireless. Personal Hotspot"

Very interesting indeed, and I hope it's not just another data only 4G solution. LTE or HSPA please! *keeps on dreaming*
