My Hotspot (4G) Pocket WiMAX/WiFi

By now everyone knows that TSTT has launched the mobile 4G WiMAX/WiFi Hotspot in your pocket product for up to 5 users, unlimited $349/mth. (2 yr. contract. It is 2MBits down, but although the rep at TSTT boasted that "is 4G!" and upload is also 2MBits, it is sadly only about 56KBits (sometimes a little faster). So it's barely usable for any intensive uploads, but the downloads are passable most times. What this product represents is mobility and convenience, with a 4hr. battery life and about a 20 foot usable WiFi radius. 4G coverage is okay generally around Trinidad & Tobago, but can be spotty. Would be nice if TSTT was to actually "crank up" the speed a little and work on stronger coverage. By definition it's 4G WiMAX, but at a minimal level.

20110502 Update: Upload speed has been improving. Got 278Kb/s today. WiMIN more like it from TSTT though :(

Sadly, dial up was never that fast; but yes, it hardly cracks 56KBs and that's with a perfect signal.

Wimax is not 4g period, but good to get an actual user review. What is the ping like.

what area are you from? does it function outside the city or town? like more rural settings. have you actually tested its mobility or have you been using it jus in one area?

my phone gets full service home, is that all that is needed to maintain a strong continuous signal?

Used along East/West corridor, and in Central as far as Pt. Lisas. Also works along East Coast, but do not know about South. Have used EVDO in most areas of Tobago too, but not the new My Hotspot yet. Coverage is quite extensive.

20110511 - Tobago update. Worked in Crown Point area, but likes open air better than buildings.

so i paid a visit to bmobile's office friday, and it appears that 4g coverage is no better than wimax cus it offers basically the same range(coverage area within proximity of cell tower) and i'm still unservicable. once again another failed attempt. guess i better construct a tower and connect my own little rig to try and pipe wifi for myself
