Amazingly the net working good for now! No disconnects and ok speed. Just wanted to say something positive for once! Correct bills too! Imagine that, now if only the rate could go down. $345 a mth for ul access at 56k is just a tad toooooo high.
Is it any wonder that they do not talk about the price of internet going up, while they say local phone rates have to go up to maintain break even?
BTW anyone know about this greendot service. TSTT has no intention to bring broadband to my area, so thinking about going with them.

Hey guys,
I don't have Greendot's service but while staying by my grandmother last weekend, I was accessing the net through a neighbours wireless connection, which was using Greendot. There service was ok, but not up to TSTT's standard.
First of all, their ping rates are TERRIBLE. Average pings to sites in the states were about 1000ms!! So, in other words, when you click on a link, it takes about 1 second to start doing stuff. The only good thing is that once the page starts loading, it loads very quickly.
Secondly, the bandwidth on this connection was obviously supposed to be 256k, but at times it would go down to less than 10KBPS on downloades, which is about 80kbps. This may be good enough for some people, but it really takes away some of the advantages of Broadband (high speed access). For example, you CANNOT listen to online radio with those kinds of speeds. Sometimes it would work great, other times it would keep buffering every few seconds.
Another of my grandmother's neighbours has wireless with TSTT's dsl, and I was able to compare the two right there. TSTT is quite obviously the better provider (now who would have thought I'd ever get to say that!), their pings rates are almost acceptable, and the speed of the connection is very reliable.
However, if Greendot is your only option, it is MILES better that dialup. Get the 256k package though.
P.S. I am not associated with TSTT in any way. If I was asked about their service a year ago, I would not have said they were any better. However, they really do seem to have figured out the quirks, and their DSL service is excellent (all beit a bit slow 512k would be nice!) It's not often I get to compliment TSTT, lol.

Oh yeah, I tell you what the best solution is. I hooked up two linksys routers as Clients, connected one to each of the neighbours wifi networks, and used a program called InterGate to use both connections at the same time! Now that was great, I had almost a 512k connection, and for free!! (Sorry neighbours, I'll try not to suck your bandwidth again 
)

Anyway, I don't think using other peoples open, 'default settings' wifi networks is illegal, but sucking up all their bandwidth is morally wrong I guess. I only did this to test whether I would get double the speed. I did not leave it downloading all night, lol.

Once they get their probs sorted and start opening all the ports, and available in my area I think I goin with them. I need the IRC, FTP and Telnet ports open (at least)! The latency is no real prob, not really a gamer, but the speed for FTP and P2P would be nice. A privacy policy would be nice too.

I believe P2P such as bittorrent needs low latency to work properly.

no latency does not play a part in P2P
atleast not a major
bandwidth is the major factor.
i really do hope that prices go down
i would like to get atleast 512kbps connection for decent price
like $200 >_<
i know i shouldn't compare to the states as they are so much technologically advanced than us, but, i experienced a 3Mbps connection for the first time in my life in new york, and i fell in love
. now back to dial up in trinidad, sigh 
thing that hurts me is the its $18 US for that connection
thats half the price of our dsl service
and almost 12 times as fast
so i dunno if my math that good
