TSTT wishes to advise customers that in keeping with the new legal and regulatory framework governing the telecommunications sector in Trinidad and Tobago, with effect from September 1st, 2006, a charge of $1.00 VAT exclusive per call will be introduced for calls to Directory Enquiries (6411) from fixed line and mobile phones.

Fixed line customers however, will be entitled to two (2) free calls per month to Directory Enquiries. In addition, all fixed line customers who are visually impaired will be exempted from this charge of $1.00 per call.

TSTT will continue to have Telephone Directories available annually for the benefit of all our customers free of charge.

TSTT has notified the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago on this course of action.

This is just the beginning...

Most of the services which we now don't have to pay for will have to be paid for e.g. technical assistance from TSTT's Internet Services, free incoming SMS et al.

Wow, this is some BS.
They're going to make a mint off of companies with this.
Here at work we practically rely on 6411 since all our phonebooks went missing.
I also hope that with this new charge that there will be an improvement in attitude with some of those operators, we always talk to them about their attitude and how unwilling they sound.

It's all a matter of objectivity in that the CSR can seem to rude to you but pleasant to someone else.

A bad attitude begets another bad attuitude.

Neither do I. I actually talk to them like normal with no attitude or anything, but if you raise your voice that is a different story.

Just to clarify. TSTT will be charging the $1.00 per minute not because they want to but because they have to. It is "in keeping with the new legal and regulatory framework governing the telecommunications sector in Trinidad and Tobago". This is part of the guidelines set out by TATT (Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago) I suspect that the charges collected will go to TATT rather than TSTT.

As I said before, this is but one of the joys of competition in that most of the services which we have gotten used to as not paying for will no longer be paid for by TSTT.
