Question about doing this:

Has anyone tried using the PPP IP extension option? This apparently uses DHCP to assign the connected router it's IP, gateway, and DNS servers, turns off the NAT & firewall options of the modem (to allow your 2nd router to control these functions exclusively), and turns the modem to be more of a bridge instead of being a router.

Anyone use this method with a paradyne of putting a 2nd router on their network?

I got the Laptop yesterday and set it up wireless using the SMC Wireless router going to the Paradyne Modem Via a Advantek 8 Port switch , And it works sweet B) , Now my 2 Desktop systems and the Laptop are all networked and sharing my TSTT 256 ADSL :( ,

I setup the WEP with no problem.

Balthazor,

I am using PPP IP extension (Advanced Setup > WAN)

You are right about what you said about the option. Here is something I found on the web about it (maybe you read the same thing?)

From http://www.usr.com/s...ui_internet.htm:

PPP IP Extension supports the following conditions:

* It allows only one computer on the LAN.
* The public IP address assigned by the remote using the PPP/IPCP protocol is actually not used on the WAN PPP interface. Instead, it is forwarded to the computer's LAN interface through DHCP. Only one system on the LAN can be connected to the remote, since the DHCP server within the ADSL gateway has only a single IP address to assign to a LAN device.
* NAT and firewall are disabled when this option is selected.
* The gateway becomes the default gateway and DNS server to the computer through DHCP using the LAN interface IP address.
* The gateway extends the IP subnet at the remote service provider to the LAN computer. That is, the PC becomes a host belonging to the same IP subnet.
* The ADSL gateway bridges the IP packets between WAN and LAN ports, unless the packet is addressed to the gateway's LAN IP address.

I successfully used this option to connect a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to the DSL modem. The Linksys now performs all NAT, DHCP, Firewall, and Quality of Service (QoS) duties. The Linksys is set to 192.168.1.1 and the Paradyne is set to 192.168.0.1, so that I can access both of their configuration pages at their respective URLs.

Let me know if you have any questions about getting this to work!

I tried the ppp ip setting but could not get my router to work with it. i did put my router on auto assign ip then i connected to dsl modem and nothing. cant even access the modem after that. it is a nice concept though and I have been searching on how to get this done for the longest while. is there a difference in setting if my modem is 6211-I2?
