hi again ppl.a while back i was curious about unlocking my phones.still am.so i again emailed tstt and digicel on info.again, tstt didn't reply.digicel sent the following a day later:-

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you very much for e mailing us with your Digicel query. I will be
more than happy to answer any questions that you have with regard to
unlocking phones. You are correct in saying that all our phones are
locked to our network. If you would like to get one of these handset
unlocked, there is an unlocking fee of $600.00 that you can pay per
phone in order to get the phone unlocked. This is because the phones
brought to Trinidad come at a very high cost and we (Digicel ) subsidies
the cost of the phones. As a result the difference or subsidy fee can be
paid to get the phone unlocked. This can be paid via Top up cards and
once these cards are added then you can contact us at Customer Care and
we will then be able to provide you with the unlocking codes for the
handset that you wish to unlock.

I hope that the information was sufficient. If there is anything else
please do not hesitate to reply to this e mail or call Customer Care by
dialing 100 from you Digicel phone or 628-7000 from a landline phone.

Thanks for making it Digicel!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download the software from this site www.motorola-unlock-code.com ,then select the locks tab in the application, and select sp lock an click unlock, its that simple,if you don't have the drivers for your phone to connect to the program,I'd send them to you if you want.

But what if you decided to pack up $600 on your phone then you call Digicel and they tell you that your phone cannot unlock or something else that results in the same thing. What would you do? I find $600 per handset is ridiculous because what if the phone is a really cheap one then $600 could probably buy a new one with the other provider or more than one phone. I find that is totally stupid and if that was well thought of then it's just there to trick rich folks who don't know better. A truly determined individual would never go that route. When I first got my moto, I needed to get it unlocked but them scamps down by me know that razr unlocking was relatively new so they wanted to charge me $200 to unlock it. I say the hell with that, I will find a way. Turns out you could flash any moto for free on your own and use testpoint unlocking for free. All it took was a few clicks on google and a metal cutting circular saw. A few years later some of my super nerd buddies at modmymoto.com figure out how to unlock the certain moto slvrs without even breaking apart the phone but by flashing alone which is real convenient. Even if you cannot unlock the phone yourself then I sure any right thinking person would rather pay a lil $50 by the local phone unlocking shop.

About the part where they lock all their phones I was wondering if that was really true for the high end phones? Anybody know if the blackberrys and other pda phones are locked?

It is a step in the right direction but I think Digicel should rethink their pricing for this unlocking system. In my opinion the price of high end phones don't seem subsidized at all when you realize that you could get a brand new unlocked one for the same price or less from online stores.

Thats what puzzles me as well, last year when I got a blackberry from digicel it was locked, can't say if they lock their pda phones as well.Since digicel here in this country,I have never ever bought a phone and got it unlocked from them,it could be the cheapest od the cheapest and it was lock, the puzzling part is that if they lock their phones it should be sold at a much lower price but when you compare prices with the current two networks,in some cases they are the same and in some cases digicel prices are even higher.I for one will never fall into the trap of paying some douche bag to unlock any of my phones at an unreasonable price when some phones can be unlocked so easy an they do like its alot of work to unlock it.I've had a motorola v220 and v180 from digicel and I unlocked both of them within a matter of minutes,I sure it would have cost me $400 and over if I had to get it done on the street.

Hey, you might be a few years too late. Vishal's last posting was in 2007. And it really doesn't help to post your same request multiple times.

Blackberry's are easy to unlock, look for the torrent on Demonoid

I did it with my past 8100 Pearl then now on my Curve 8520

Also watch www.crackberry.com for the latest and greatest bleeding edge OS for any new blackberry's.
I running an official release of OS 5.0.0.509 on my 8520

This is not for the faint hearted, if you brick your phone, don't say I didn't warn you (WARNING you might brick your phone) msg me and I'll arrange and do it for you for a small fee of course.
