Today TSTT technicians came by my house to fix my ADSL which was working 2 days after i called and made a complaint. After the technicians took a look at my settings on the DSL router they told me that ADSL2 is supposed to be launched this week coming (last week of sept). So waiting to see that materialize. <_<

Everyone's talking and talking and most without facts...

If the information is that the new services will be launched in October then we can only wait for them until they are launched.I still maintain that most of the people here although complaining about the services won't be forking out the cash to pay for them.

My DSL2 seems still to be fine:

But when I use the 'recommended' server in Curacao I get much lower values:

For what it's worth, I get near identical results with my C&W connection. The Curaco server itself is pretty bad.

Curaco

Edit: I should also say that my max speed is actually much higher than either speedtest result indicates.

:D :D
Having fun?

But one thing I'm noticing - even though you are getting >4mb download speeds, you're only getting 512k up. This kind of defeats the purpose of the faster connection if you are:
*Video-conferencing
*Uploading files.
*Using bittorrent.
*Logging into your home network via VPN.

All of which I tend to do quite regularly :P . Is this a limitation of ADSL2+? Because that could be a serious consideration when deciding between Flow or TSTT - the upload on Flow's 6mb connection is 2mbps. In fact my 2mb Flow connection which is currently getting barely 512k down, is getting solid 64KB/s uploads (512k up).

Yes, of course having fun

ADSL2+ has a max upload rate of 1Mbps. But ADSL2+ also allows for port bonding providing higher speeds.
As for bittorrents ... I would not really like to waste my bandwidth for that. Instead get a little VPS server in the US and let them take the load. At the end I simply do a little ftp download and my line is free again. As for the 'low' upload rate ... it is sufficient for VPN's to do most 'normal' work. Of course when it comes to shifting files back and forth ... that's where bandwidth is the main key.

We have to see what TSTT will actually offer. Right now my line is not throttled ... but I did not yet reach the end of the Internet.

Well it could be that Florida is actually "closer" to us than Curacao. Even though another country might be just next door it may actually take longer to get there than the US mainland. We really have no way of knowing how the local ISPs route their traffic. So it may not be the Curacao server that's bad, it probably takes twice to the amount of time to get there than to get to Miami.

Yup. I suspect the traffic goes from Curacao to Miami and then to us here in Trinidad. Probably just how the ISPs route their traffic.

Look at these two traceroutes.

This one is to the Miami server:

tracert speedtest.amnetus.com

Tracing route to speedtest.amnetus.com [200.30.139.163]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 37 ms 99 ms 99 ms cuscon13414.tstt.net.tt [200.108.21.253]
2 19 ms 18 ms 19 ms tservq.tstt.net.tt [209.94.205.25]
3 20 ms 95 ms 19 ms cuscon16442.tstt.net.tt [196.3.140.233]
4 80 ms 79 ms 79 ms sl-gw11-orl-3-1.sprintlink.net [160.81.181.201]

5 119 ms 79 ms 119 ms acr1-loopback.Miami.savvis.net [208.172.98.61]
6 121 ms 83 ms 83 ms sl-bb20-mia-15-0-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.8.52]
7 83 ms 121 ms 119 ms 144.232.18.14
8 119 ms 121 ms 83 ms sl-newco-6-0.sprintlink.net [144.223.244.30]
9 * * ^C

This one is to the Curacao server:

tracert monitor.scarlet.an

Tracing route to monitor.scarlet.an [190.2.128.86]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 99 ms 99 ms cuscon13414.tstt.net.tt [200.108.21.253]
2 18 ms 19 ms 17 ms tservq.tstt.net.tt [209.94.205.25]
3 19 ms 19 ms 20 ms cuscon16446.tstt.net.tt [196.3.140.237]
4 79 ms 77 ms 79 ms sl-gw11-orl-3-1.sprintlink.net [160.81.181.201]

5 119 ms 119 ms 79 ms sl-bb20-orl-0-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.2.232]
6 84 ms 119 ms 121 ms 144.232.18.14
7 120 ms 81 ms 83 ms sl-st20-mia-12-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.2.195]
8 115 ms 83 ms 115 ms sl-bb21-atl-14-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.12.142]
9 116 ms 135 ms 133 ms se-1-0-0-0.sc-an-cur-ar01.network.scarlet.an [190.2.130.6]
10 134 ms 133 ms 131 ms monitor.scarlet.an [190.2.128.86]

Trace complete.

Notice in both cases the first 4 hops are identical. Both seem to pass through Miami so there is probably no direct way to get to Curacao from here.

Just for technicality sake, did you do over those trace routes at different times? Because the routers could be doing load balancing/rotation and using different initial hops sometimes.
