The Telecom Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (TATT) has recently issued instructions to all Cable TV operators within Trinidad & Tobago to cease the broadcast of the movie channels Starz and Showtime. Green Dot Limited (GDL) has strongly opposed this for a number of reasons, the most prevalent being:

    1. Both Starz and Showtime have not given rights for broadcast within the Caribbean most likely due to the fact that they consider the region too small and insignificant.

    2. The majority of other Caribbean territories and their Citizens currently do and will continue to enjoy these premium movie channels and as such this instruction is being enforced for Trinidad & Tobago only.

    3. There are alternate solutions to resolving the situation but in our opinion all these have not been explored prior to the instruction being issued.

The instruction from TATT states that all cable TV operators must terminate the broadcast of both channels by December 31st 2010. As much as we disagree, GDL is left with no choice but to comply with this and hence will cease to broadcast both channels on this date.

GDL continues to challenge this decision with TATT and also the Minister of Public Administration, however as of this date the challenges have been futile. In the interest of the Citizens of T&T, we encourage you to direct all concerns on this subject to the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and also the Ministry responsible for this sector:

    Mr. Cris Seecheran
    Executive Director
Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago
#5, Eighth Avenue Extension, off Twelfth Street
    Barataria
    Tel : 675 8288, 221-8288 Senator the Honourable R. Nan Ramgoolam
    Minister, Ministry of Public Administration
    Level 5-7 National Library Building
    Corner Hart and Abercromby Streets
    Port of Spain
    Tel : 623 6724

We apologize for the disruption to your viewing, however, GDL are actively looking to finalize contracts and negotiations with other content providers and will be adding further channels in due course. We are also in the midst of negotiations with HBO that provide Premium movie content however these channels will incur a separate charge. GDL will update in due course.

  2. In Topic: Extremely slow speeds

    Posted 29 Nov 2010

Yep I'm also feeling the effects of this slowdown. I don't even download much these days, all I do is browse and research stuff and these nights it's really unbearable. I keep resetting my router and browsing speeds would go back normal and return to a sticky pace in about 5 minutes and when I do a speed test on the blink site the ping used to be around 40 to 42ms now its in the 50 to 58ms range.

You see one major upper hand that TSTT has over FLOW is coverage.

tstt would of had to upgrade to the very latest ADSL2+ version (ITU G.992.5 Annex M) which was only approved last yr (2008) to allow for upload speeds higher than 1 mb according to wikipedia

i doubt they would be so fast to implement that so maybe he tiefing yuh head

Well I pretty sure he's on blink and I did get chance to test it out,I'll take a snapshot of a speedtest whenever I get the chance again.

All true. I know for a fact that flow is a "padner" company as they say. A friend of mine say he was able to get a flow digital connection because his business associate has a padner inside flow. Meanwhile nobody else in that area could even get digital cable. This is the place we live in, no chance of improvement because I saw a woman on tv had to drink drain water and still preaching how she love her "insert political party here" so this is the way this country will remain. Destined for failure due to myopic leaders and brainless followers. I always say it and will continue to say it "Vision2020: convert Trinidad to Haiti".

Just to show you how stupid some people are, this has to be the only country dumb enough to not see the potential of sugar cane, meanwhile Brazil is using it for fuel and we could have been selling it to them. Again, all the "padners" in the oil industry will not want to hear about alternative fuel sources because it will hurt their ever so fat pockets.

Happens all over, guess it's just the world we live in today, yuh got to know the 'insiders' to get anything done these days, one of my neighbours has an upload speed of 2mb on blink when my upstream line rate lies around 700kbs,sigh
